Dennis Marschall and Charles Weerts have been promoted to Audi Sport’s factory lineup which will also include three of the manufacturer’s DTM drivers from last season.

Young sports car racing talents Marschall, 24, and Weerts, 19, join the Audi factory pool after impressing in GT3 competition over the last couple of years.

Weerts won the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup with Team WRT, while Marschall drove for fellow Audi squad Rutronik Racing in ADAC GT Masters.

Both drivers also piloted Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evos in the Total 24 Hours of Spa and Kyalami 9 Hour endurance events.

In addition to Marschall and Weerts joining, the Audi Sport lineup has been bolstered by the inclusion of three drivers who previously represented the brand in the DTM series.

Rene Rast, Nico Mueller and Mike Rockenfeller will continue their official association with Audi as factory drivers following the end of the manufacturer’s DTM works program.

DTM champion Rast is driving for Audi in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship but will also be eligible for “selected customer racing events” in 2021, according to an Audi statement.

New Lamborghini signing Mirko Bortolotti is the only driver from Audi’s 2020 factory roster without a place on the program this year.

The changes bring the total number of Audi Sport factory drivers up to 16.

The continuing program members are Mattia Drudi, Rahel Frey, Christopher Haase, Pierre Kaffeer, Kelvin van der Linde, Christopher Mies, Patric Niederhauser, Frank Stippler, Dries Vanthoor, Frederic Vervisch and Markus Winkelhock.

Audi’s factory squad will be available to drive for customer teams – including factory-affiliated entries – in GT championships and major races around the world this year.
