Nyck De Vries has scored pole for Sunday’s European Le Mans Series round at Paul Ricard following a late scramble for the top qualifying position.

The Dutchman stormed to a 1:42.166 lap time in his No. 26 G-Drive Racing Aurus 01 Gibson to edge out the championship-leading No. 41 Team WRT Oreca 07 Gibson of Louis Deletraz by 0.157 seconds.

It marked De Vries’ second pole of the season in the Algarve Pro Racing-prepared car he’ll share with Franco Colapinto and Roman Rusinov.

Phil Hanson, who held provisional pole prior to a brief red flag for the No. 37 Cool Racing Oreca of Nico Lapierre, which briefly stopped on track, wound up third overall ahead of Lapierre, who also made an improvement late in the running.

Lapierre’s time was good enough to secure LMP2 Pro-Am class pole honors as well.

The majority of the LMP2 runners all made improvements in the final five minutes once the track went back to green.

In LMP3, Laurents Hoerr scored his second class pole in three races, taking his No. 4 DKR Engineering Duqueine D08 Nissan to the top of the time sheets.

Hoerr’s 1:48.440 lap time was 0.386 seconds quicker than the No. 20 Team Virage Ligier JS P320 Nissan of Garett Grist, who made a late-session improvement.

The No. 8 Graff Ligier will line up third in class ahead of the best of the United Autosports entries in fourth, thanks to Wayne Boyd’s lap in the No. 2 entry.

Ross Gunn gave TF Sport its first GTE class pole of the season, meanwhile, with the No. 95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE edging out the No. 93 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Richard Lietz.

The 4 Hours of Le Castellet gets underway Sunday at 11 a.m. CET (5 a.m. ET).
